Approx. 200 conference delegates gathered on 18-19 November, 2014 in Gothenburg, Sweden to learn about projects within the TEN-T Motorways of the Sea Programme of the European Commission. The conference focused on sustainable shipping and reduction of emissions. Midway Alignment of the Bothnian Corridor was one of the six projects which were invited to share their know-how and experience as well as present the results achieved so far.
Midway Alignment’s delegation in the conference consisted of the project’s steering committee with members from Vaasa, Finland and Umeå, Sweden. Mr. Mathias Lindström, project manager, and Ms. Miapetra Kumpula-Natri, MEP, as well as Wärtsilä representatives told the conference about the design of a new ship for the Kvarken Strait.
– It was indeed a great honour to have our project picked out to present itself, among the ongoing 56 TEN-T MoS projects. In addition to the opportunity to inform about our project, it is very important for us to hear about the experiences of others who work with similar projects. Exchanging information and spreading the results are essential elements of all the projects which have been co-funded via TEN-T Motorways of the Sea programme, says Mr. Mathias Lindström, director of the Kvarken Council and project manager of Midway Alignment.
During the conference, the audience were informed about projects which help develop a sustainable shipping sector that meets international and European regulations. In this context, a wide range of emission reduction solutions were presented, including LNG, methanol and scrubbers.
