One year has passed since Midway Alignment of the Bothnina Corridor’s official kick-off event in Umeå.
– Our goal is to create a fully integrated multimodal transport solution across the strait, which is part of the European TEN-T network. The planning of the new ferry is in progress, but the development of the ports and the logistics is equally very important; people and goods should be able to travel fast, flexibly and environmentally friendly in a west-east direction, from the Norwegian coast to Russia. This is how we can contribute to growth and the regions can become even stronger, says Mathias Lindström, Project Manager of Midway Alignment of the Bothnian Corridor and Director of the Kvarken Council.
To achieve the objectives, the project has carried out numerous analyzes that form the basis for all planning.
The prepatory work consists of goods flow- and customer analysis, as well as development of the concept regarding both the current and the new ferry. Necessary total investments have been mapped out and the costs are calculated.
The analyses are needed to ensure that the major outlines and plans are made right from the start. It is not our intention to throw out a solution which we only think is good, says Tomas Sikström, Infrastructure Strategist at INAB.
But it is not enough to collect information and keep it to yourself. On the contrary, we believe that it is important to share this knowledge with others.
During the past year, Midway Aligment has been visible both nationally and internationally. We have created both marketing and communication material, launched a website and a Facebook page, as well as informed diligently about what the project has been up to. We have organized two Innovation Days and several seminars. Moreover, we have gathered at Wasaline, the Almedalen week and, most recently at the Commission’s Motorways of the Sea -conference in Gothenburg. The year has been hectic and interesting, and we will continue our eager work next year, says Midway Alignment’s Communication Manager Riitta Björkenheim.
We hope that you have enjoyed the ride as much as we have, and with the holidays right around the corner, we want to send our partners and stakeholders our warmest Seasons Greetings and wish you all a Happy New Year!
